Law 4\/2023 is a national law that pursues two objectives: to guarantee the rights of LGBTI persons against discrimination and to recognize the free determination of gender identity of trans persons. It replaced the previous Law 3\/2007, which did require a diagnosis of gender dysphoria and two years of hormone treatment to be able to change the sex designation in the registry.<\/p>\n

Can the Registry Change Be Reversed?<\/h3>\n

Yes. After six months have elapsed since the registration, the person can recover the sex designation that appeared before by following the same procedure. If after that reversal they wished to amend again, the new application would have to be processed through judicial channels. <\/p>\n

What the Law Says About the Healthcare Sphere<\/h2>\n

The law clearly separates the legal recognition of identity and the medical accompaniment of transition. Changing the sex in the Registry does not require any treatment, and conversely: a person can begin hormone or surgical treatments without having modified their documentation. <\/p>\n
