Social Commitment · Gender Medic Unit

No one is left behind.
Universal access to transgender healthcare.

We believe that financial resources should not determine the right to live with dignity in one’s own body. That is why the Sigo Adelante Foundation supports Gender Medic to assist, through external partnerships, at some stage of the transition process.

The Foundation

Our solidarity alliance

The Sigo Adelante Foundation was established in 2013 in Aragón by a group of surgeons with a clear objective: to restore quality of life to those who, due to malformations, accidents, burns, or illness, suffer physical sequelae correctable through surgery and lack the means to afford it.

Over more than a decade, the Foundation has transformed reconstructive surgery into an instrument of social justice: operating in Pakistan on women victims of acid attacks, establishing hospital infrastructure in Mauritania, and providing local care to patients without resources. In 2026, more than 500 patients received free care in Mauritania through its programs.

Mauritania — Hospital Implementation

How this mission extends to the transgender community

Comprehensive support for patients in transition

Gender transition is not only a medical process: it involves a profound personal, social, and emotional transformation. Many transgender patients face economic obstacles that go far beyond surgical costs: job loss, family rejection, administrative barriers, need for ongoing psychological support.

Through our alliance with the Sigo Adelante Foundation, Gender Medic Unit extends its commitment across four dimensions:

Social integration and support

Support for transgender patients in their process of social, employment, and family reintegration. Referral to legal, psychological, and social guidance resources.

Gender affirmation surgery without resources

We assist with the management of financial aid for gender affirmation treatments for those patients with documented economic vulnerability. Subject to availability of aid.

Community resource network

Connection with LGBTQ+ associations, social services, and support organizations for care that extends beyond the medical consultation.

Transparent and confidential evaluation

An independent committee evaluates each application according to objective criteria. The process is completely confidential at all stages.

“Dignity cannot be a privilege of those who can afford it. Reconstructive surgery, in any of its forms, is an act of justice.”
